The Hidden Struggle of Psychosomatic Disorders in India

___The Hidden Struggle of Psychosomatic Disorders in India____
Psychosomatic disorders, though widely prevalent remain largely untreated in India. Many individuals suffer from unexplained physical symptoms that medical professionals struggle to diagnose. Despite extensive testing, these patients often receive no concrete answers, leaving them feeling hopeless and unheard.
One such case was a 28-year-old woman who visited my clinic in distress. She said, Ma'am, I have a problem. I have visited many doctors, but no one has found a solution. I experience severe pain all over my body, from head to toe, and I have suffered from this pain my entire life. Will I ever get relief, Ma'am?
Her journey had been long and exhausting. Initially diagnosed with OCD, she later developed intense hallucinations, primarily a fear of ghosts. Over time, her condition worsened, manifesting as severe body pain. Despite consulting multiple doctors and undergoing numerous tests, no medical cause was found. Eventually, she sought help at my clinic, desperate for a solution.
Psychosomatic disorders occur when emotional distress manifests as physical symptoms such as pain, fatigue, or digestive issues—without any identifiable medical cause. The suffering is real, but the root lies in psychological factors rather than physical illness. For example, a person experiencing depression may feel intense body pain, even when all medical tests indicate no abnormalities.
For this patient, we began treatment with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help her manage her thoughts and emotions. As she made progress, we introduced family constellation therapy to explore deep-seated emotional patterns and relationships. After this therapy, her pain, which had been at a 10 on a scale of 0 to 10, completely disappeared.
To ensure lasting relief, we incorporated. Meridian Therapy, a technique that promotes deep relaxation and emotional balance. Astonishingly, after this session, her pain vanished entirely. One year later, she continues to live a pain-free and fulfilling life.
This case highlights the urgent need for better awareness and treatment of psychosomatic disorders in India. While medical science plays a crucial role in healthcare, addressing psychological well-being is equally essential. With the right approach, countless individuals can find relief from suffering that has long been misunderstood and neglected.
