Is it possible to recover and grow after experiencing trauma and sufferings ? Yes , This ability is Resilience.
In simple terms, it is the ability to 'bounce back' from adverse life situations. We humans come across a lot of situations in our life where we feel mentally and physically down. But the strength lies in our ability to come back fighting all those difficulties. Acknowledging the fact that life is not always rainbows and sunshine, our capacity to withstand any situation matters the most.
This reminds me of a friend who was very cheerful, studious and lively. She was the charm of the college and everyone loved being with her as it was full of positive vibe. Apart from this, her excellence in academic and extracurricular activities was remarkable. Her life was going so smoothly till this news arrived. Her parents passed away in a car accident on their way home after a trip. This changed her life within a couple of hours.She was the eldest of the siblings and was guardian of the two siblings now. The weight was unbearable for this 22 year old girl. But She never stepped back, even when life pushed her to suffer. There were moments when she questioned the purpose of going on with this life but she held on at least for her siblings. Many nights passed without sleep, filled only with tears, overwhelming thoughts, and with no sense of hope.
But eventually, she realized that living in pain and silence wasn’t the life she wanted. She took a courageous step by seeking professional help, reaching out for social support, and slowly engaging in activities that brought her joy. Bit by bit, she began to plan her life the way she wanted to live.
Despite facing many situations where giving up was an easier option ,she chose to hold on with hope and perseverance. Today, she lives the life she once dreamed of with healing, hope and resilience.....
In sum, resilient individuals cope more effectively with stress, reducing the risk of long term effects. Surrounding us with support friends, and family , understanding and accepting emotions without judgments can create an environment favourable for reselience.
